Nagios is a very powerful Open Source Monitoring Tool which supports self - written plugins.

This enables you the possibility to monitor nearly every network device you have in mind.

Working with nagios in different environment, i needed to create some plugins by myself to monitor firewalls, ironports, clusters, ...
